| Radians | $0$ | $\dfrac{\pi}{6}$ | $\dfrac{\pi}{4}$ | $\dfrac{\pi}{3}$ | $\dfrac{\pi}{2}$ | $\pi$ | $2\pi$ |
THE TRIGONOMETRIC CIRCLE
Definition 1:
In an orthonormal frame $(O, I, J)$, we calltrigonometric circlethe circle with center $O$ and radius $1$, oriented in the direct direction (counterclockwise).
Notes:
- We say that the coordinate system $(O, I, J)$ is direct orthonormal.
- The trigonometric circle has a length equal to $2\pi$.
Real line and trigonometric circle
The line $(A'A)$ is tangent to the trigonometric circle at $I$. It represents the line of real numbers.
By wrapping the line of the real numbers on the trigonometric circle, we associate a point on the trigonometric circle with each real. The length of the arc $\overset{\frown}{IP}$ is equal to the positive real $x$.
Notes:
The real line being infinite, it wraps around the trigonometric circle an infinite number of times. We can therefore associate an infinity of real numbers at the point $P$:
- In the positive sense: $x,\ x+2\pi,\ x+4\pi,\ x+2k\pi\ (k \in \mathbb{N})$
- In the negative sense: $x-2\pi,\ x-4\pi,\ x-2k\pi\ (k \in \mathbb{N})$
Definition 2:
We define the measure1 radianas being the measure of the angle $\widehat{IOM}$, oriented in the direct direction, where $M$ is the point of the circle associated with the point $A$ of abscissa $1$ of the real line.
Property 1:
The measure of an angle in radians is proportional to its measure in degrees.
Correspondence degrees and radians:
| Degrees | $0$ | $30$ | $45$ | $60$ | $90$ | $180$ | $360$ |
| Radians | $0$ | $\dfrac{\pi}{6}$ | $\dfrac{\pi}{4}$ | $\dfrac{\pi}{3}$ | $\dfrac{\pi}{2}$ | $\pi$ | $2\pi$ |
